Chargers defeat Riverside to go 2-0 in conference

Cypress, CA - The Chargers' slow start of the season appear to be taking a turn. After going 3-1 in the San Diego City Tournament, Cypress continued that momentum to beat back to back OEC opponents to remain undefeated in league at 2-0. After losing the first set to Riverside 25-19, the Chargers stomped back to take the final three sets and the victory.

The Chargers have reason to celebrate

Cypress, CA - The Chargers (2-5, 1-0) carried the momentum from last weekend's tourney at San Diego City to beat Saddleback (2-8, 0-1) in three sets 25-16, 25-21, 25-18.  To win a home conference opener is always important to set the tone for conference play.

Kristen Taylor had 10 kills to lead the team, Setter Shannon Tucker had 41 assists, while Libero Marianne Tapales had 13 digs.

The next conference game is Oct 3 vs Riverside.

Chargers come up in 5th at San Diego Tournament

San Diego, CA - The Chargers go on their final pre-conference trip to participate at the annual San Diego City Tournament. The Chargers play exceptionally well defeating Mt. SAC 2-0, Cuyamaca 2-0, Arizona Western 2-1 and loses to Chaffey 1-2. In the playoffs the Chargers fall to South Mountain in a single elimination match 18-25.  The effort has the Chargers in 5th place of the tournament and get in tune for conference play. For the tournament, Setter Shannon Tucker has 31 assists, Middleblocker Heather Crowell has 24 kills and Libero Marianne Tapales has 26 digs to lead the team.

The Chargers open conference play against Saddleback at home on September 28.

Chargers play close against SD Mesa

San Diego, CA - The Chargers travel to their final non-conference road game to San Diego Mesa to face a solid Olympian team. The Olympians are 6-4 coming in and have defeated strong teams like Saddleback, Ventura and Cuesta. The Chargers (1-5) play well and right there but cannot get over the hump. The Olympians defeat the Chargers 21-25, 20-25 , 18-25.

Setter Shannon Tucker has 30 assists while hitters Kayla Pace has 8 kills and Kristen Taylor has 6 kills.

Chargers fight hard against 5-ranked team

Cypress, CA - The Lady Charger Volleyball team open its home game against Grossmont, the 5th ranked team in the state. Cypress fights hard every sets only to lose 3-1. After Grossmont takes the first set 22-25, The Chargers bounce back to win the 2nd set 26-24. Grossmont comes back strong to take the last two sets 10-25 and 14-25. The defense plays well, Libero Marianne Tapales has 11 digs and DS Yesenia Pacheco also adds 11 digs. Freshman MB Heather Crowell has 1 solo block and 5 assisted blocks. Kayla Pace leads the offense with 7 kills.

The Chargers (1-4) will play at San Diego Mesa on October 19.

Chargers split at El Camino Quad

El Camino propels the win

Torrance, CA - The Chargers (1-3) goes into the El Camino Quad facing a strong Pasadena City in the opening game. The Lancers return three All-Conference players all stand 6-foot or taller, Jackie Acosta, Megan Callen and Janise Joseph. The Chargers get the best out of Ashley Crawford with 6 kills and Yesenia Pacheco with 8 digs on the defensive end but the Lancers prevail 19-25, 18-25, 12-25.

In the second game, the Chargers face another tough foe, the host team El Camino. The Warriors have not lost a set in their previous outings. Cypress comes out charging and out dueling the Warriors in an exciting 5-set match, 25-22, 15-25, 25-16, 16-25, 15-13.  Ashley Flores contribute 15 kills, Crawford with 16 kills while on the defensive side Marianne Tapales leads the team with 17 digs and Pacheco adds 14.

The Chargers are coming home to host Grossmont on Wednesday.

Pasadena, CA - The Lady Charger Volleyball open the 2012-13 season the Pasadena Quad. Playing close against a strong Mt SAC team in the opening game, Cypress get 10 kills from Ashley Flores while Ashley Crawford contributes 7 kills and 7 digs. The effort is short as the Chargers fall to the Mounties 1-3 (13-25, 18-25, 25-18, 23-25.)

In the second game against another strong Santa Barbara City team, the Chargers stay tight and force a 5-set game. Crawford comes up with 16 kills but the effort fall short in a losing cause to the Vaqueros 2-3 (20-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-16, 9-15.)  Crawford ends the day with 23 kills and 16 digs, Kayla Pace has 14 kills and Jen Porter with 16 digs.
